When the Drone Flies, Models Mutate
#SBCCSummit-INDONESIA: ABSTRACT ACCEPTED
Insha Allah would you join me at the SBCC Summit (#SBCCSummit ) where I will be talking and presenting on the following accepted abstract:
1.
Oral Presentation: When the Drone Flies, Models Mutate: In 2016, UNICEF launched an innovative study to use drones to transport laboratory samples from a peri-urban health facility to a central laboratory. This presentation postulates that while innovations proliferate in the field of development, SBCC/C4D must equally innovate to better respond; and particularly to leap-frog new technologies. This requires rethinking our models and approaches.
Looking forward to the 2018 International SBCC Summit

Presenting VIR Band Intervention at Nusa Dua
It is a dream come true, I have developed and tested the Vaccine Indicator and Reminder (VIR) Band, a concept that came to me in a dream! The VIR Band is an innovation to remind parents when to return to the vaccination center for subsequent doses of vaccines of the childhood routine immunization schedule.
New ideas and innovations need to be preceded and accompanied by robust community engagement and communication efforts to facilitate it uptake. I will be presenting at the SBCC Summit 2018 the details of our communication initiative and its success in creating a dialogue around vaccination at the household level.
Looking forward to knowing the methods and experience of others and sharing with the SBCC community our learning from the field.
SBCC at the household level

This sounds like a really exciting initiative!
I'm curious, have you considered magazines/comics as part of your community engagement strategy?
In my experience, I've found that shareable referrable resources can be a powerful tool in getting your message across impactfully.
I look forward to your presentation!
Sincerely,
Naddya

Hello Naddya,
Thank you for sharing your learning/insight about engaging communities. In our community engagement intervention we developed a brochure, with lots of color and graphics, to inform our target audience about importance of timely & complete vaccination, vaccination as a child right and how the VIR band works.
Look forward to learning more from you and SBCC practitioners at the Summit.

Yes, community health workers in Tanzania are using mobile phones not only for counseling but also for accessing learning materials to improve their performance. They also use mobile applications to link, refer and track clients from the community to health facilities and vice versa. I look forward to your presentation to learn and share experiences.

This year’s SBBC Summit, I
This year’s SBBC Summit, I expect to learn different approaches, techniques and methodologies used by different participants in other places of the world that I could adopt for SBBC programs in Uganda. What my organisation has done so far in Uganda is design a media tool; a drama series which reflected real issues in post-conflit societies. Through this tool, we demonstrated alternative ways of dealing with conflict. The target audience watched the drama series and were able to dialogue, afterwards, on the issues the realized as one community. One year later, the native participants have continued to carry on and share the message of peace and reconciliation among their peers which is yielding positive results as far as collaborating for development. Our fous was on promoting intercultural dialogues and social cohesion among post-conflict multicultural communities. This came as a result of stagnant development in these communities which could have accelerated through collaborative problem solving among the different cultural groups. Our strategy was to influence a change in their social behaviors of the people in the target communities so that they are receptive towards one another, persons of different genders, tribe , physical ability and social status.
Sharing our learning on Social & Gender Norms @ SBCC Summit !
We are excited to present at the SBCC summit about the use of radio listening clubs for inspiring discussion to shift social norms related to interpersonal violence - we are looking for a lively discussion and will be sharing the exact details of the where/when as soon as we know them - see you in Nusa Dua?
Interesting about the Radio listening clubs
Radio is one of the best and widespread media for messaging and can be a strong medium for spreading messages for behavioural change. It will be good to know more about the radio listening clubs for inspiring discussions at the SBCC summit at Nusa Dua.
Designing, implementing and measuring ( Global Lessons )
I am very excited to represent SBCC programing in Afghanistan and looking forward to network with you , share ideas and learn a lot from you.
Sharing or Learning on Social and Gender Norms
I will most certainly be interested to participate in this forum, in hearing how the Radio Listening Clubs have worked in shifting Social Gender Norms. I am interested in this presentation and would like to compare notes as we are also using Radio Listening and Action Platforms, or LAPS. These listen to a radio serial drama in a goup, discuss and take action on areas that they have hither to been no go areas. This has contributed in shifting norms. Youth were not participating in decision making, in participating in budgeting and monitoring of local government funds that are allocated, therefore unable to feel that they can dermand accountability form the said leaders. with this radio serial drama, we see a shift in norms - youth demanding and getting good results and therefore having the roads, bridges, health centres that were in the budget built.
Looking forward to the SBCC Summit
Looking forward to hearing from professionals working for SBCC through various medium to improve the quality of life in a community. We will be presenting a paper on "Bringing behavioural Change through Interpersonal Interaction with refusal families for improving the polio immunisation coverage in Uttar Pradesh".

Bridging the gap between policy and communication is very fundamental to effective behavioral change #SBCCSummit.
Child-related papers - SBCC
Hi all,
I have recently reviewed the accepted SBCC Summit abstracts and I was glad to see that 54 of them are related to child-related issues. Our abstract on the topic of Child Protection Response and Referral Mechanism has been accepted and I hope will be able to navigate resources and logistics to be able to present. I was wondering if a number of those with an interest in child-related issues are interested to have a lunch / dinner together to get to know each other and learn from each other. These big conferences are awesome for networking and the wealth of information, but sometimes they can also be a bit 'dispersive'. I am particularly interested to learn about any behavior-based interventions and programs to end violence against children in all forms.
Looking forward!
M.

This pilot entailed sending weekly SMS messages to mothers of 1-2 year old children in South Africa, with a focus on promoting nurturing care and language development. I’m very excited that I'll be able to share these results publicly at SBCC with those in the field. #SBCCSummit2018

Family planning
#SBCCSUMMIT,can help in promoting family planing about mothers.
What Works?
I am looking forward to the summit. It will be exciting to share the results of a pilot test, in east central Uganda, of a job aid “Wheel of practices for better living ”, where 19 practices are organized and displayed in the home. As the family moves through the “first 1,000 days”, community health workers (CHWs) make periodic home visits to promote uptake of key practices and opportune care seeking. The tool is to help both the CHW and the family to discuss what works and what needs improvement.
What works,
I am exited that I will present the results of, "Promotion of Health Seeking Behaviors Through Integrated Community Voices, Participation and Leadership engagement in Shifting Norms Around Nutrition in Malawi, " the nutrition emergency campaign that we implemented at Story Workshop with funding from UNICEF. The involvement of intra-leaders in community mobilisation brought wonderful results. Its a poster.
“No to CIRCUMCISION”- SBCC Summit
My abstract titled "“No to CIRCUMCISION”: The Road to Effective Social Marketing Campaigns in Egypt" was accepted as a poster presentation at the 2018 International Social and Behavior Change Communication Summit. This study aimed to explore levels of exposure to information on FGM/C and examine the design and implementation processes of SMCs/interventions. We also sought to understand the types of messages and abandonment approaches recognized and explore community perceptions about them and their perceived impacts.
Excited to participate in this year's SBCC summit
I am pleased and excited to be joining this year's SBCC summit. I will be sharing social media data I have analyzed regarding people's perceptions of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) in Egypt from online platforms. I look forward to discussing and understanding further the role of social media in affecting behavior change and altering social norms, especially amongst younger generations.
Excited to participate in this year's SBCC summit
The use of social media in fighting social problems is highly projected as a new phenomenon in building sustainable communities. The other side inside the same frame of capacity building is the effect it shall have on those who have limited access to mobile technology or living in remote areas where internet or telecom technology is out of reach.

The shift of BCC to SBCC
Hello. Can anyone please enlighten me on the shift of BCC to SBCC people talk about? Is there any example of work where the shift is visible? Can't wait long to hear about new ideas and share knowledge. #SBCCSummit2018
Shift of BCC to SBCC
Dear Nisho,
The difference is in the detail.
Over the years, we have seen a shift in how health and development programs think about human behaviors.
Approaches to behavior change have expanded beyond a focus on the individual (BCC) in order to emphasize sustainable, social change.
SBCC looks at a problem from multiple sides by analyzing personal, societal, and environmental factors to find the most effective tipping points for sustainable change. This means that; while BCC can achieve individual empowerment, SBCC is also using strategies that influence the physical, socio‐economic, and cultural environment to facilitate healthy norms and choices and remove barriers to them.
In some situations, advocacy or social mobilization for policy change may support stronger and more immediate permanent change than campaigns that target individual behaviors.
SBCC methods aim to improve advocacy or mobilization for social action, along with BCC for personal change.
Planinly put ; BCC is part of SBCC, while SBCC builds on BCC.

Shift of BCC to SBCC
Dear Kemigisha Elizabeth,
Hi. Thanks a lot for your reply. You have fantastically made the point! "BCC is part of BCC, while SBCC builds on BCC". Technically the question is wrong here, there is no shift from BCC to SBCC. It's kind of an extension to make BCC really effective by preparing the physical, socio-economic and cultural environment for the people to adopt better behavior and practices for bringing change to their lives and to all. If BCC empowers them, then SBCC makes the effect sustainable. I was looking for an example of such initiative where both BCC and SBCC has been used. Hope to see some in the summit. Thanks again. #SBCCsummit2018
Shift of BCC to SBCC
Experiences and researches finding show the S is important for the BCC because people behaviour is influent by social factors. Taking into account Social change cause an effectiveness and sustainable behaviour change at individual level in the community. Nisho, thank you for your question. This Kind of discussion reinforce our knowlegde on SBCC. Happy to be a member of the CIN! This is a good strategy to encourage discussion and reflexion on many aspects oconcerning SBCC and its use in our intervention.
Looking forward to the SBCC Summit 2018

That means that people are
That means that people are using SBCC for their interventions because, they have got proof that SBCC improves heath incomes. I browsed accepted abstracts, this summit will allow to learn more in differents domains. But i didn't see enough abstracts from West Africa ( country is not name on some abstract). I'm certain that there is experiences in the region but i wonder if many people in this area submitted abstracts. Thus Intervenants of this region have to commit more for SBCC because, the Health and developpement income are very low in many countries of the region. Thanks to Summit SBCC team for the hard work.

Vaccination on time - one of the biggest challenges in India
Still India is struggling with the full immunization coverage. National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-4 (2015-2016)) has been published recently. In spite of intensified immunization campaigns, full immunization coverage of children aged 12 - 23 months is still 62% in the country. Still long way to go! As per NFHS 4 data 72.5% of children of the country in the age group of 12-23 months not getting immunized on time. It is good that now the focus is also being given to timely immunization. Certainly SBCC has to play a vital role in this sector.
Saw couple of abstracts on immunization is listed for 2018 SBCC Summit. Looking forward to gain some thoughtful insights on this burning issue.
